Tanker Vetting Inspection (TVIN)
TMSA Requirement: Element 3B
Scope and Objectives:
The Scope and Objectives of the “Tanker Vetting Inspection Course -TVIN” is to train Seafarers, Loading Masters, Pre-vetting Inspectors and Superintendents, tasked with vetting preparation of Oil, Chemical and Liquefied Gas Tankers.
There is an ever-growing concern for the environment, especially with respect to pollution of the seas due to oil spillage or discharge. Oil Majors exercise due diligence by ‘vetting’ the vessels and Vessel Operators to ensure safety of life, safe carriage of their cargoes and protection of environment.
Vetting Inspections are the integral part of tanker operations.
The Tanker Vetting Inspection Course has been designed so that the ship’s staff will be better prepared to undergo vetting inspections on board. This will minimise the number of observations resulting from the inspections and elimination of vessel rejection by oil majors.
The Course begins with an overview of the Oil, Gas and Chemical Tanker industry, goes through the inspection process in detail, and ends with practical advice on dealing with Vetting Inspectors.
The Course has been developed with the assistance of active Vetting Inspectors and experienced staff sailing on oil majors’ vessels. It covers details into vetting requirements, SIRE program, Sire Inspection Key Issues, Oil Record Book and pitfalls during vetting, deficiencies, Post inspection actions, etc.
Target Audience:
All Officers serving on Tankers, Loading Masters and Superintendents.
