Rigger Slinger & Banksman Course

Scope:

The Scope  of  Rigger Slinger & Banksman Course is to train participants in the rigging principles and its general hazards 

The course curriculum covers

  • pre-use inspection of rigging & lifting gear,
  • different types of knots, bends & hitches used in lifting industries,
  • calculation of load weight and identification of Center of Gravity of asymmetrical loads,
  • different types of signals,
  • different types of wire ropes and usage,
  • SWL of slings, hooks, spreader bars & other lifting gears,
  • effect of overloads and shock loads,
  • hazards associated with lifting and swinging operations and
  • applicable regulations.

Objectives:

At the end of the Rigger Slinger & Banksman Course, the participants will be able to

  • Explain the role and responsibilities of a rigger, slinger & Banksman.
  • Explain the relevant parts of Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations.
  • Identify and list typical hazards associated with rigging and lifting activities.
  • Explain how to check that there is adequate access, workspace and lighting within the designated work area.
  • Identify the various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), the rigger would typically use.
  • Understand common rigging terminology.
  • Identify the types of lifting equipment to use for different lifting activities and explain their purpose and determine and select suitable rigging based on loading.
  • Explain sling angles and sling tension.
  • Understand Load Turning, Load Distribution, Effects of Shock Loading and Load Weight Estimation and load points.
  • Understand Off-Level Pick Points, Center of Gravity of both Symmetrical and Asymmetrical objects, load dynamics.
  • Identify and attach rigging with knowledge of hitch configurations and load angle factors, rigging capacities, and load integrity.
  • Demonstrate various standard Signals used during lifting operations.
  • Identify SWL of slings, hooks, spreader bars & other lifting gears,
  • Understand effect of overloads and shock loads & associated hazards
  • Understand various regulations associated with rigging and slinging activities.

Target Audience:

The target group for Rigger Slinger & Banksman Course are Rig Workers, Roustabout, Floorman, Derrickman, Crane Operators, Crane Helpers, Loading and Unloading field Operators, Maintenance Engineers and professionals who are involved with rigging and slinging operations.
