Scope and Objective of LCHS - Chemical Course
The Scope and objectives of “ The Liquid Cargo & Ballast Handling Simulator (LCHS) – Chemical ” are to acquire knowledge and develop skills relating to the effective operation, supervision and monitoring of Tank Cleaning, Cargo Loading, Discharging in IMO II/III Chemical Tankers, acting as a Team.
This course is designed according to the IMO Model Course 1.37 “CHEMICAL TANKER CARGO AND BALLAST HANDLING SIMULATOR” and addresses the following competence requirements:
- Regulation I/12, Sections A-I/12, B- 1/12 and
- Table A-V/1-I-3 of the STCW Convention and and Code as amended.
The DNV approved Simulator is based on a 17,000 Mt DWT class Parcel Chemical IMO type II & III Chemical Tanker suitable for carriage of category X, Y, Z and other substances in bulk.
The layout of the Parcel Chemical tanker used in the The Liquid Cargo & Ballast Handling Simulator (LCHS) are
- 20 cargo tanks with No 10 P&S are designated as slop tanks.
- 20 manifolds are provided on each side for cargo transfer.
- Tank venting system
- 20, Centrifugal, Hydraulic Driven Framo pumps for cargo handling
- 1, Centrifugal, Electric Driven Ballast pump For Chemical tanker,
The simulatoralso includes the following components:
- Cargo control system.
- Ballast control system.
- Inert/nitrogen and venting control system.
- Washing control system for fresh and seawater.
- Heating control system with steam/thermal oil or hot water as appropriate.
- Tank drying control system.
- Pump control system.
- Hydraulic power pack system or electric motor control panes where appropriate.
- Oil discharge monitoring system (ODME).
- Gas detection system.
- Alarm system.
- Emergency shutdown system.
- Manifold system including crossover lines, ‘U’ pieces and flexible hoses connection facility.
- Terminal connection and cargo chosen capabilities
The Simulator exercises are supervised by an experienced instructor and allow the trainee to become familiar with the operation of Chemical cargo tank cleaning, loading and discharging operation. Each exercise is preceded by a briefing session and followed up by a group debrief, which analyzes the actions and decisions of the trainee.
This course is highly customized to meet and then exceed the industry training requirements for working in Chemica industry. They also focus on the relation between human attitude and a safe and efficient operation of Chemical tankers.
This is a Value added Course conducted using e-Simulator streamed directly to the trainee computer at his/her home.
