Liquid Cargo & Ballast Handling Simulator: LCHS - Oil

LCHS Oil

Scope and Objective of LCHS - Oil Course

The Scope and objectives of “ The Liquid Cargo & Ballast Handling Simulator (LCHS – Oil ) ” are to acquire knowledge and develop skills relating to the effective operation, supervision and monitoring of Tank Cleaning, Cargo Loading, Discharging in Modern Oil Tankers ( Product, Aframax and VLCC),  acting as a Team.

This Value added course is designed according to the IMO Model Course 2.06 “OIL TANKER CARGO AND BALLAST HANDLING SIMULATOR” and  addresses the following competence requirements:

  1. Regulation I/12, Sections A-I/12, B- 1/12  and
  2. Table A-V/1-I-2 of the STCW Convention and and Code as amended.

The DNV approved Simulator is based on following Modules:

  1. MR range Product Tanker Module:

This model is based on a 46,000 MT DWT MR Oil/Chemical tanker.

The vessel is fitted with seven pairs of cargo tanks, one pair of slop tanks , eight Pairs of Segregated Ballast system, IG System, Oil Discharge Monitoring & Control System  and UTI Gauging System. The cargo system is designed to enable the carriage of four segregated cargoes. The systems can be interconnected as required for loading, discharging or inerting purposes.

Four manifolds are provided on either side, one for each cargo ‘system’. Vapour modelling allows dilution and displacement methods of gas replacement to be demonstrated, with dilution or displacement method occurring being dependent upon the pipeline setup together with the density and speed of inlet of both the gas within the tank and that entering the space

  1. AFRAMAX Tanker Module:

This model is based on a 105,000 MT DWT Crude Oil carrier.

The main components of the model include six6 pairs of cargo tanks and one pair of slop tanks , Six pairs of Segregated Ballast tanks and peak tanks , Inert Gas generation (Flue Gas) and distribution & Control systems, Oil Discharge Monitoring & Control System  and UTI Gauging System. The Cargo Control System have three set of Horizontal steam driven centrifugal cargo pumps, deck lines and bottom lines are provided with two valve segregation facility. Cargo system also have stripping pump, cargo eductor as well as auto unloading system. All cargo pumps are provided with separator and facility to operate from cargo control room.

  1. VLCC Module

This model is based on a 310,000 MT DWT Crude Oil carrier. The main components of the model include three groups of cargo tanks consisting of five pair of wing & centre cargo tanks and one pair of slop tanks, Segregated Ballast system with five pairs of Ballast tanks and peak tanks, Inert Gas generation (Flue Gas) and distribution & Vapor Control systems and UTI Gauging System.

The cargo system is designed to enable the carriage of three segregated cargoes. The systems can be interconnected as required for loading, discharging or inerting purposes. Three manifolds are provided, one for each cargo ‘system’. Vapor modelling allows dilution and displacement methods of gas replacement to be demonstrated with dilution or displacement method occurring being dependent upon the pipeline setup together with the density and speed of inlet of both the gas within the tank and that entering the space.

The LCHS (Oil) Simulator exercises are supervised by an experienced instructor and allow the trainee to become familiar with the operation of  cargo tank cleaning, loading and discharging operation. Each exercise is preceded by a briefing session and followed up by a group debrief, which analyzes the actions and decisions of the trainee.

This course is highly customized to meet and then exceed the industry training requirements for working in Oil industry. They also focus on the relation between human attitude and a safe and efficient operation of Chemical tankers.

This is a Value added Course conducted using e-Simulator streamed directly to the trainee computer at his/her home.
