Chemical Tanker Cargo Operation including Wall Wash - CTCS
Support Level
The Scope and objectives of ” The Chemical Tanker Cargo Operation including Wall Wash (CTCO) – Support Level course ” is to bridge the competency gap between the operation of IMO type III chemicals and the IMO type I/II chemicals.
This course is designed as per industry requirement and covers
- Wall wash,
- Passivation of cargo tanks,
- Carriage of dangerous and toxic chemicals like TDI, PMDI, PO and
- Various types of Acids, Phenol etc.
Many chemicals are extremely sensitive to contamination, just a few parts per million of a previous cargo can contaminate an entire shipment. Many cargo samples are taken during the loading of chemicals.
When a cargo is contaminated it must be established whether the cargo was affected prior to loading; or during its transportation on board. Cargo transfer hoses may also contribute to cargo contamination. Therefore, hoses should be properly cleaned in between different cargoes.
There is an ever-growing concern for cargo contamination, venting, accidents due to cargo spillage in IMO Type I/II parcel chemical tankers due to lack of knowledge and expertise from officers.
This course is designed such that the ratings and other support level staff trained under this course are knowledgeable to minimise such incidents.
